Top 5 Tips - How to Use Social Media to Hire Care Staff

Did you know more and more care providers aren’t using social media to recruit care staff?

Save money, time and increase retention rates by using the below 5 methods to seriously transform your care business.

1. Brag about your company

Although you prefer to stay modest about your company's achievements, you can still showcase your achievements and successes without sounding fake or big headed.

Do you have ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’ for you CQC report? Do you have clients telling you what a difference your services make to their lives? Do you have staff who offer praise to the management from the support and training they receive from management?

Whatever it is, showcase it all over your social media and website. Social proof accounts for over 80% of a reason either a new staff member will join your company AND if a new customer wants to use your care services.

2. Have ‘Meet the team’ sections of your staff

I recently did a survey of 40 care providers in the UK to see how many ‘Meet the team’ sections I could find on care providers' websites and social media. The results were lower then I first anticipated, with only 4 out of 40 taking this marketing technique on board.

Not having a ‘Meet the team’ section runs the risk of having no social proof or evidence that your staff have anything at all pleasant to say about your company. Why not have 3 or 4 staff members introduce themselves, tell readers about the company, their experience, what they love about the role and working for you, along with a photo of this staff member in full uniform. This creates a story behind your care company that people want to be a part of. Care staff and potential clients want a brand image and an identity to follow.

You’ll soon see a huge increase in staff applying to work for you, a huge increase in client enquiries and guess what, your retention rates increase as staff feel massively valued.

3. Testimonials on your Facebook page

Testimonials on your Facebook page are simply essential. I take myself back to 2017 when I first applied to work as a Care Assistant. What did I do? I went on Indeed and looked who was hiring in my area then I checked out their Facebook page for social proof to see what staff members had to say about that care provider. And guess what? The company I joined had over 10 testimonials and reviews on their Facebook page.  Testimonials work every time.

4. Photos, photos, PHOTOS!

The majority of care providers have social media channels and of course a website. But How many do you see with photos of staff, training, social gatherings, client parties, community and charity events? If you have a training day or induction, take photos.

If you have a tea party for your clients or Halloween party for your staff and family members, take photos. If you recently celebrated a 5 year avert of a staff member, take photos. People in care want to hear the story behind a company.

Let’s face it, us guys in care are all emotionally led and love to be part of a care providers journey. Share the day to day ongoings at your care business, you’ll soon see the rewards.

5. Paid advertising

Now you have all your images, testimonials, meet the teams and social proof that you’re an amazing care provider, what next?

Put simply, you have to pay on social media to gain a following. This doesn’t mean throwing thousands of pounds at online advertising. I have seen exceptional results paying around £25-£100 a month on targeting audiences in your specific demographic. If you’re recruiting in a specific area, then

Facebook allows you to target this area where you can focus on key words, age ranges and interests such as ‘dementia, care assistant, support worker’ which will allow you to target your content to an audience that is interested.

This might sounds daunting if you’ve never had to deal with social media advertising before, but fear not, that’s why The Care Social Network are here.

I hope you have been able to take something from the above tips.
